It was quicker to walk to mansion house. Around that time you'd be lucky to get a circle line train every half hour. I think it's much better now though.

30 min car drive atm

When I used to work for fly by nite it was a 2 hour drive to Redditch

Trans Am was a similar time driving to Bungay

Tube to St James' Park and 5 min walk to work"

Doesn't the circle run from liv st to sjp?

Re: long commutes

What route were you taking which meant it was 45min from Kings Cross to Aldgate? It's a 10 min tube ride!

I agree it should be. but by the time you've negotiated the walk to the tube - assuming they haven't stopped people getting in due to overcrowding, waiting for the tube, getting on the tube, waiting while the dickwad that's stuck in the doors because he's so important he can't wait for the next one....etc etc you know what I mean.

Yes it's 10 minutes when it's empty and working, but that's not often.

Re: long commutes
I used to do
Bus in South Woodham Ferrers to the station
South Woodham to Wickford
Wickford to Liverpool Street
10-15 mins walk from Liverpool street to Mansion House
Tube to St James' Park and 5 min walk to work

I couldn't fucking stand it, most depressing time of my life. 5 years of that.

Last 9 years i've worked 10-15 minutes away from home. Absolutely love it.

Will probably have to do the commute thing again when I leave though, but times have changed, and I guess I can watch stuff on a phone or tablet which makes it a little more easier.

No thanks. That's why I still live in Oslo Sentrum. Sometimes I work late and do not what a long slog at the end of it.

I see the plus side where you can get a lot of reading done, if you're not driving, but I've nearly always had a half hour journey at most; be that walking, bus/train ride or drive.

These days, cycling is the quickest way to work. 10 minutes door to door. I can make the 4/5 minute tube journey, but then you have to add on the 3 minute walk to the station, and then the 2 minutes walk from the other station to the job. Only in the winter or if it's pissing with rain.

Occasionally take the 25 minute stroll, if the sun has his hat on.

After reading some of you lot's regimes, I set a bigger price than ever on my short hop. skip and jump.

I currently think my 1 hour 10 minutes to london is bad enough but reading some of your posts is quite worrying. How the fuck can you commute for more than 3 hours per day?

Re: long commutes
I genuinely do not understand folks who do long commutes.
My advice: always live within walking distance to work.

You're spending a 25% of your waking hours trapped with coughing cunts on a train. Considering you've chosen this way of life, I assume that's preferable to being home. Which means your home or missus must be shit. No offence m8.

Bus from Southend to Wickford.

Bastard of a journey.

Did it feel nice when you got back in the evening?

Re: long commutes
Guess some people don't have much option but a long commute really is a waste of your life. For a few years I commuted from Poole to Canary Wharf 3 or 4 days a week. Left home around 5:15 and back around 8:30 completely knackered. Weekdays were a right off and weekends were just catching up. Living somewhere decent was no compensation.

Thankfully, I didn't have to do it every day or for too long but there were some who did and usually got pissed on the way home. What a waste.

Re: long commutes
Spent a year communiting from Sandown (Isle of Wight) to Moorgate 4 days a week!

Leave at 6.10am, walk to Sandown Station
6.24am Sandown to Ryde Pier Head
6.45am Fast Cat from Ryde to Portsmouth Harbour Station
7.15am Portsmouth Harbour Station to Waterloo
8.55am Waterloo and City Line to Bank
9.05am Walk from Bank to Moorgate

And then back again in the evening. I read SO many books in that year!

Used to do a commute from Southend to Hangar Lane...not cool. But fortunately was only 2 days a week in general, working from home the other 3.

I loved the job, great people and good money.
